Virginia Hoop League is the foundation on which Virginia Sports League Organization is being built. Virginia Hoop League started as it’s own entity and after many years of serving the community has become a program to Virginia Sports League Organization. Founded in 2010, Virginia Hoop League was established as an adult basketball league for the community. The goal was to provide competitive basketball in a family friendly environment. After over a decade of evolving, the league has become a platform for us to build Community, Education and Opportunity (C.E.O.).
Community
The league provides a safe, family friendly environment for young adults to compete and be seen in a positive light by the community. Some of the things we focus on when running the league is showing love to as many players as possible in the form of statistical acknowledgements, milestones and player highlights, keeping the competition level even and providing quality features. Additionally, our strategic planning in growing the league has helped us reach the goal of creating a family environment which is displayed by the community attendance to watch games. For players the league positively impacts their lives is so many different ways ranging from confidence, drive to family life. There have been many participants from all walks of life that have played in the summer over a span of 15 years, and the majority are still a part of the league. Some former players now coach, referee, spectate or still play, and all of them take time to connect with the young adults to give advice, share experiences and help keep them on the right path.
Education
We offer volunteer positions to high school students that are interested in learning anything associated with the league like game scoring, statistics, videography, photography and league management. High school students can use the time towards credit hours for their school programs. We also offer internships for college students for videography, photography and league management.
Opportunity
The vast majority of the league is comprised of young adults between the ages of18-24 and a lot of them are college athletes. The league gives them an opportunity to work out with local coaches and trainers, compete against pro players and obtain footage that can assist with college and pro recruitment.
We often select players to represent Virginia Hoop League in tournaments or special games. The games are often memorable experiences and sometimes can lead to more opportunities for a player. (ex: 2024 All Navy Game Trip to Charlottesville – vs Tonsler League )
